whoops

Can someone make a comment so ignorant and off the wall that it automatically invalidates everything they have ever said pertaining to any topic?

You know a really moment. As in, really??? Really, that’s what you really think? Wow.

Kind of like,

“I know it wasn’t rape-rape. It was something else but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”

~ Whoopi Golberg on Roman Polanski

I guess in Whoopi’s world, a 44-year-old man getting a 13-year-old drunk , drugging her and performing oral, vaginal, and anal sex on her after repeated pleas of “no, stop, please stop, please take me home”, is not rape-rape, but the lesser act of something else.

The world must really be rosier through those tinted circle lenses, because in Whoopi’s world when a 44-year-old man photographs a 13-year-old girl nude, drugs her, forcefully molests and has sex with her (despite repeated pleas to stop), then asks if she would want him to “go in through [her] back” then proceeds to sodomize her while she cries, “no, please stop”, that’s not rape-rape.

Nope, not rape. I mean he has an Oscar just like her, he’s just kooky old Roman, always fooling around good-natured-ly sticking his penis in 13-year-olds. The prosecutor has it all wrong. He’s no real criminal, not like those Wall Street bankers.

nyu

On my way home from work tonight, while riding the subway, I noticed the small print on an NYU School of Continuing & Professional Studies advertisement. It read, an affirmative action/equal opportunity organization. How are these two goals not considered mutually exclusive?

Just struck me as ironic.

overpriced juice

mvie

I am back from two weeks in Hawaii; rested, relaxed, sans an outer layer of skin, and married.

While staying in Maui at the Grand Wailea Hotel (where a hamburger costs $30) my path crossed with a couple of hundred MonaVie salespeople. If you don’t know what MonaVie is, chances are you never check your junk mail folder. MonaVie is what comes from Jesus’ eyes when he cries, bottled by Oprah, then packaged for you to purchase at $45 a pop so you can live forever (or something like that).

I gather business is good, good enough for a few hundred juice pushers and their families to spend 6 days at a five star hotel in Hawaii to go over “marketing and sales techniques”,  which I assume is multi-level-marketing-slang for drinking $9 Coors Lights by the pool while your plastic wife and emotionally neglected kids annoy the crap out of good paying hotel guests.

The 2009 MonaVie Hawaii summit proved one thing - if you sell fancy juice in fancy bottles, every article of your clothing is emblazoned with your fancy corporate logo, and you can afford a fancy Hawaiian vacation - anyone who buys MonaVie from you is a sucker.

Stick with orange juice (just don’t buy it at the Grand Wailea Hotel, it’s $6 for a 4 ounce glass).

a funny thing happened…

June 10th, 2009

A funny thing happened last night. I was accused of being a Liberal troll sowing the seeds of discord on a conservative blog I occasionally comment on, ha imagine that.

The topic of discussion was David Letterman’s hideous joke about A-Rod statutorily raping Sarah Palin’s 14 year old daughter (google it if you want, I am too tired to provide a link). After reading through the long and passionate thread, I decided to comment on a a group of people who were facetiously (but at length) “plotting” a shoe throwing attack on Letterman by infiltrating his audience and capturing the event on a cell phone video. My suggestion was that this kind of talk only brings them down to the level of the liberal fringe whose tactics they would be emulating.

This comment of mine touched off a string of accusations about how I was a liberal in sheep’s clothing or a “Kum baya” singer trolling the thread as some secret tree hugger. I guess the point was lost on some that I was only suggesting that “fighting fire with fire” as they called for, is not always appropriate, especially when it brings you down to a lower level.

Just as every Obama apologist’s first rebuttal is “George Bush did this…”,  that kind of logic only perpetuates bad behavior. If people continue to justify stupidity by pointing out the stupidity of others, the only thing we are left with is, well, stupidity.

Besides the amusement of being called a liberal (for the first time in my life by the way), I found it ironic and perhaps illuminating how a group of smart people can succumb to the pitfalls of thinking while outraged. This is the trap that we all are best to avoid, no matter how audacious and vicious someone attacks you (David Letterman, really have you no shame?), do not be tempted to stoop to their level as the only means of an “effective” response. And I say this not as someone who refuses to get dirty, but as someone who refuses to perpetuate the hypocrisy of “he did it first”.
